Student Counseling Intern

Supervised by Shawna Munson, MA, LPC-S, LMFT-S

Hello!  My name is Angela and I am a graduate student at Walden University, working towards a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, supervised by Shawna Munson, MA, LPC-S, LMFT-S.  I also hold an associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Baker College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Missouri State University.

After working for over two decades in the fields of education, social services, and mental health, I decided to take the next step in my career path to dedicate my focus to helping others work towards mental health recovery. My primary focus in working with clients includes providing parenting support and working through the effects of trauma and grief on mental health. Additionally, I am experienced working with a variety of individuals and groups from a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and experiences including those with addiction issues, anxiety, depression, ADHD, eating disorders, conduct disorders, PTSD, and more.  I utilize a person-centered style of counseling, allowing those I work with to guide their individual treatment path. This includes using a range of therapeutic techniques to facilitate the journey of healing resulting in personal empowerment and a better understanding of self. I strive to provide a safe environment for self-discovery and have worked with individuals from a wide range of cultural backgrounds including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ populations.  I hold memberships in the American Counseling Association and Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honor Society. I have also received specialized training in parenting education, trauma-informed care, mental health peer support, and whole health management techniques for mental health.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time outdoors and traveling with my family and spending downtime at home crocheting and playing games such as World of Warcraft, Animal Crossing, and Legend of Zelda.
