Student Counseling Intern
University of Houston
Supervised by Shawna Munson, MA, LPC-S, LMFT-S

Hello, and welcome! I am currently a student at the University of Houston, completing my Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, supervised by Shawna Munson, MA, LPC-S, LMFT-S. Although new to providing counseling services I have been a counseling client at various times throughout my life, and I credit those experiences with the fulfilling life I have today. My wish is to pass

this gift on to others – the gift of truly listening without judgement to my fellow human’s concerns so they can get to know themselves better and eventually feel and function better in day-to-day life. My theoretical perspective is informed by Existentialism, one of the goals of which is defining one’s personal meaning of life. I also appreciate the techniques used in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, to name a few.

As a middle-aged person, I have had many different life experiences. I’ve been a student and a teacher; I’ve lived abroad and in different parts of the United States; I am married and the mother of a 20-year-old son; I’ve helped care for grandparents, and I really appreciate senior folks!

In my free time I like to be outside walking my dogs, going for a jog, or gardening. I also like watching Netflix and other streaming services, doing crossword puzzles, and reading. My husband and I like to travel and discover new restaurants when we can.

I am a student member of the American Counseling Association and the Texas Counseling Association, and I speak English and French. I hope to meet you soon, and I wish you growth and happiness!
